Musical Microcosm

I remember it was around 2004 while I was still working at a record store called Chopin Haguen Records in Bogota, when a Venezuelan client and friend introduced me to this whole ‘Micro House’ concept, it was the first time I heard the term and soon after he brought me a copy of Akufen’s fabric CD, and later got a chance to hear his own album and I was blown away by the aesthetics proposed by his style, sample based yet so futuristic and minimal and still maintaining the jacking and raw vibe of pure and proper house music.

The album that I heard was called “My Way” it’s from 2002 and I remember reading somewhere that he locked himself in a house incommunicado from the rest of the world except for a radio which he used for sampling and for a month or two and did the whole piece there. Just as it came it went and I haven’t heard much from Akufen or the style coined ‘Micro House’ since, up until recently in the early 2011 where the term has been popping up here and there and I think it would be interesting to hear more from this style in the future.

Reading Resident Advisor the other day I bumped into this recent DJ set by him, about 3 hours of great music, I wouldn’t know how to categorize it and I don’t mean to, the style has changed a lot since his album “My Way” and all I can say is I love it and wish the set was available for download!

Elite Records Press Release:

For his first single of 2011 José Cabello brings us a colorful and happy track club enough for Pacha and underground enough for DC10. A real dancefloor bomb full of housey happiness!

On the remix side we’ve got Phillip O from Colombia who has remixed artists such Fedde Le Grand and The Egg before, he takes the track to the next level with a peak hours house tune that won’t leave your set for the coming months.

All in all, a great package for almost every DJ. You will for sure get the latin feeling with this “Fiesta” loaded with beats from Venezuela and Colombia.

Luz De Luna!

2010 – Is Disco House Back? is the way Jim Breese from the UK begins his article on his website about our new track Luz De Luna… Being such a good write and having nothing to add to it, I’ll just copy/paste here for you to read yourself…

2010 – Is Disco House Back?

If so, it’s no bad thing. Amongst all of the creativity oozing from House music, it could also be suggested that sometimes, the fundamentals of what it is has been lost.

It’s a vibe & it’s a feeling. One that resonates deep from the dance floor. Looking back to the mid nineties, when I was the other side of the booth, clubbing frequently at ‘The Ministry’ & ‘Wobble,’ the Disco/Filtered sound was huge & it turned the clubbing ‘FUN’ dial to +10. Around this time, I started to DJ & it was tracks such as Todd Terry’s ‘Jumpin’ & DJ Sneak’s ‘Polyester EP’ that were my fail-safes to pull from the back of the stucco. Back then, records were solely about the groove & everything hinged on finding & then working that golden Disco sample.

Fast forward to Feb 2010… I headed to Colombia to play at our very popular Hed Kandi residency at Piso 30. It was also a chance to drop into the studio of Bogota’s rising Tech producer Phillip O. What followed was a couple of days writing, some incredible Colombian food, a spontaneous Sax recording from Ibiza based jazz musician- The Lovely Laura & a truly memorable gig that was rocking till the late AM.

With so many influences, what could a track like this sound like? Straight up, rolling, Disco House of course!

Move Your Body!!!

Got another release out today! this is my first release on Sound Mass Records and I’m very proud of it and the fact that its a remix for Utku Dalmaz, an amazing Tech House / Deep House producer from Turkey.

Very very nice Deep Tech Housey feeling on this one, massive subby bassline and sick groove that is impossible not to dance to!!

Miguel Estrada’s “Drop”

Miguel Estrada from Australia and Don Steele from Vinyl Pusher Records were kind enough to choose me to remix Miguel’s debut release, Miguel Estrada is a new name in the scene, but the man behind it has plenty of experience in “the Oz” club and music scene…  My take on “The Drop” is kind of different to what I’ve been doing, Big Room Proggy House with a long breakdown and a massive buildup only to explode with a sick drop… hence the name ;)

This is my third release on the Australian imprint, Vinyl Pusher. Out now on Beatport!

Funkbomb

My second release on the Australian imprint Vinyl Pusher! This time I’m remixing Rob Care, whose Saxophone flooded Funky House track makes it feel like summer wherever you are! My take on it was basically intended for the clubs, with the right amount of summer vibe attached to it, the HUGE saxophone and kinda Tech House stabs will get you ‘dancin and prancin’ in no time. Got to love it.
